 Biography

Hey everyone, I'm Ronnie Shalvis. I have spent the last 7 years training in the discplines of parkour and free running. I have grown a lot in that time and I am still learning. I have been doing free running professionally as a stunt man for the last 2 years. I also do stunt coordinating with a group of stuntmen you can see on my stunt crew page.

I grew up having dreams, dreams of flying, of being my favorite super heroes. I would dream of being the fearless Jackie Chan. As I grew older those dreams never died, I still aspire to the prowess of my childhood superheroes. Because of my dreams I found parkour, a way of movement that taught me to push my body to accomplish things that I only thought possible in my dreams.

I grew up with a low sense of self worth. I struggled in school and in the social dynamics that plagues most teenagers. It wasn't until I found something that gave me a life purpose, a passion to explore and discover, did I truly see my potential. I discovered parkour and free running. It was introduced by some high school friends when I lived in Springville, Utah at the age of 15. I was in awe and inspired by the videos of David Belle the founder of parkour, and Cyril Raffaelli a popular french stunt man. When I first began learning basic parkour movements it started as a fun activity, something I could do with friends or on my own. As I progressed I began to push myself and truly understand what my body was capable of.

Shortly after discovering parkour I moved to north Salt Lake where I spent most of my time for the next year and a half training alone and making videos. During this time I learned to discipline myself so I could reach the next level. I eventually reached out to others who had discovered this same path that I had found and we would train together. Then soon after I met Devon Bardole who became a good friend and training buddy and we decided to start a stunt team. We started a team called Team StreetStunts, with our goal being to make a living off of what we love to do. Although we may not have gotten very many jobs, we had fun some fun adventures with a crew of parkour athletes.

When I moved home to Bountiful Utah at the age of 21 I started training hard, and I again pursued becoming a professional stuntman and that's when things started happening really fast. 6 months after being home I was in my first Viral youtube video called "Assassins Creed Meets Parkour in Real Life." Filmed by Devin Graham who became a very influential person in my life. It was because of him that I have been able to now make a successful youtube channel reaching thousands of viewers everyday. I was then working full time doing stunt jobs and youtube videos. I even appeared in one of Freddiew's video "Old School vs New School" A midst all of these things happening in the summer of 2012 I married Corrinn(Day)Shalvis the girl I'm in love with.

A year after all of this started happening, I developed sciatica, a serious nerve pain from a back condition I have. It has almost completely halted my training for a time. During that time I had to turn down potential stunt jobs. This got me thinking about becoming a stunt coordinator. Being a stunt coordinator would allow me to still be immersed in the scene even though I may not be able to do it myself for the time being. I have since met the CBR Stunt Team who I now work with to do free running professionally and I still work with Devon Bardole who I met originally when we started Team StreetStunts.

My life has changed immensely since I was the insecure 15 year old boy. The world is different now, I can see beauty in the world where I did not before. I now seek to share this same passion with whomever can benefit from it. I create videos and articles about the fundamentals of the movements of parkour so that if even one kid can benefit from them, I know I have helped to change someones life.

"Life is made up of obstacles and challenges, to overcome them is to progress" - Sebastien Foucan, Founder of Free Running

Parkour teaches us how to overcome physical obstacles, but it can teach us so much more then that. It can teach us how to overcome any trials or obstacles we face in life. My purpose now is to use parkour as a means to help others understand the art of overcoming obstacles and to shed a new perspective on the world. One of beauty, discovery and self accomplishment. I do this through training, meeting people, creating videos and social networking. I may not be able to fly around and save people yet, but I strive to give others that same hope as I fall with style...

  14. It's creepy how similar the beginning of the story is to mine. I heard about Parkour and started doing a few flips when I was only 10, but I didn't discover how much I loved it and how much I could achieve until I turned 15. It's every Thursday night from 7 - 9 when we all hang out and all of my depression and worries go away. It makes me feel so in touch with the universe when I get to experiment with physics and see what's possible, and the flipping actually comforts me instead of scares me.

Well I don't know how boring my life would be without meeting you and the rest of the Parkour community. I'm so glad I get to do this, and I plan on doing it in my dream job(s). My friends and I are going to start up a group called "YGT! Urban Movement" (YGT! stands for "You got this!"), and our goal is to reach out to young people and help them realize what all of them are truly capable of, increasing their self esteem, and helping them have something to do to escape to when they're depressed (rather than doing drugs). It's just a vision right now, but we eventually want to make a Parkour gym for it, and spread it across the nation!

  17. Hey Ronnie,
First off we share the same birthday except I am 4 years older than you. Secondly I love your videos and your stunts. I have 2 left feet when it comes to gymnastics and stuff like that but I occasionally will get on a trampoline and flip around. I have always been fascinated with free running, stunts, gymnastics, and acrobatics. I think what you do is simply amazing and even though I may never be able to do it and I am fine with that I will simply enjoy watching your videos and hopefully be able to see a live performance.
